WPLFC - THURSDAY PREVIEW

This week Proudly brought to you by – Nelson Alexander Preston! Contact Colin Abbas on cabbas@nelsonalexander.com.au for all your Real Estate needs.

Another massive weekend ahead for our Roosters. Te season goes on the line in the Twilight at Greensborough for the Seniors, while grading wraps up for the Ladies and our juniors on Sunday, which just happens to be Mother’s Day! To all our Roosters make sure you look after all your Mum’s, Grandmothers and carers on Sunday after the game, or before depending on game time. Make sure you treat them to something special, like a big specky, miracle goal, nice tackle, or maybe just breakfast, lunch or dinner, flowers and a hug.

This week the league will support the Pat Cronin Foundation. It’s now just over 3 years since Pat Cronin tragically passed away from a Coward Punch on a night out with family and friends. Pat was a much loved member of the Lower Plenty football club and the wider Northern Football Netball League. He tragically passed away two days after the senseless act of violence. This type of behaviour is unacceptable in our community and the Pat Cronin Foundation has been set up to help raise awareness and educate the wider community and assist with Research, whilst honouring Pat’s life.

Players across the NFNL will this week wear yellow armbands to remember Pat and as a simple gesture of respect the league asks all players to shake hand both before and after each game played.

To more light hearted matters… The under 9’s are taking over the house tonight, the kids will train prior to the seniors and have a few special guests drop by for training before coming into the rooms for dinner. If you want to see the next generation of superstars in action get down to the home of Football a little earlier than normal – the place will be rocking. Dinner will be served to the faithful as usual, guess we’ll also Feed our senior playing group! You can get the teams for the weekend straight off the presses while enjoying some great company. You can still get your club memberships just see Dooga at the bar and he will sign you up. Also you can still get Raffle tickets, some great prizes to be won, you don’t want to miss out.

Ladies day is fast approaching on June 1st. Contact Robyn or Lisa on 0407112253 or 0433521962 to book your place – info on Team app and FB too.

To the playing side of things, our Netballers have a bye this week but will be back in action next week.

To Saturday, and we have our Under 19’s fresh from a break through victory last week in action at Home against Laurimar from 9.40. Again, It would be great to see a crowd roll up to see the boys in action after last week’s terrific performance. There are no excuses really as there will be plenty of time to take in all the action and then head to Greensborough for the Reserves who don’t kick off till 1.55.

So Get on down Rooster family!

As said the Reserves are at Greensborough from 1.55 followed by the big boys in the twilight at 4.10pm. Massive games for both teams as they take on undefeated opposition. There are no easy games in the league, but no stone has been left unturned in preparation for these games, get down to War Memorial Park and cheer the boys on – both games should be classics.

In case you’re wondering due to not all teams fielding an under 19’s a grading process was undertaken and teams split in two divisions which do not match up with the Senior Divisions, so our boys will not always be at the same ground as the seniors or playing the same teams. Not ideal, but it is what it is.

The Senior women’s grading comes to an end this week, with our ladies fresh from dismantling Bundoora last week. They were heading on the road to Eltham, but I’m sorry to say due to a Major injury crisis at Eltham they have been forced to forfeit the weekends game, so our ladies will be able to put the feet up and enjoy a weekend off, after last week’s bruising affair it may not be a bad thing? How this will affect our grading we will have to wait and see, but enjoy the weekend off ladies.

The juniors we have a quiet home agenda this week with just the 3 games at J.E.Moore Park.

The under 11’s host a very competitive Eltham Black side @ 11.00. Both teams have a 2-1 record, so this should be a close affair.

The u 15’s finally get to grace the hallowed turf after 3 weeks of taking the show on the road, and what a show it’s been! The boys have been in devastating form early on and look forward to dishing up more of the same to Mernda this weekend, action kicks off @ 12.30

The 17’s take on Yarrambat in the final home game, hopefully with the goal kicking radar fixed after last weekend’s wayward shooting for goal, Yarrambat are coming off a solid victory last weekend so will be full of confidence for this one. Game starts @ 2.15pm

We also have a home game for our 14 Girls combine, but this one will be hosted at Darebin’s ground at 196 Miller Street, Preston. At 10.30am the girls are taking on Mill Park and will look to sustain the continued improvement they are displaying each week, expect another spirted effort from our girls.

On the road
U9 Blue are at Eltham Black from 9.00
U9 Red take on Monty Black from 9.45
Both our under 9’s have been coming along in leaps and bounds this year, providing a highlights reel the envy of any Carlton supporter, as we know scores are not kept officially, the kids will tell you exactly how it ended, but as always Footy will be the winner – good luck crew.

The U13’s will be hoping for some nice conditions when they head to Whittlesea @ 11.30. For some reasons it always seems to be cold and wet when we venture out country. The forecast is not too bad, should be a tight contest as both teams have been in pretty good form.

Montmorency is the destination for the under 14’s from 11.45am. Monty have been flying this year, but our boys are up for the challenge.

Where else would you rather be at 2.30 on a Sunday afternoon than at Diamond Creek taking in the under 16’s? Yeah ok maybe you could think of a few other places, but seriously this one will be better than the showdown in Adelaide, don’t miss it.

And with the U10’s getting to sleep in with the Bye this weekend that is a wrap.

Lots of action to keep you warm over the weekend, enjoy whichever games you get to, be safe and have a great weekend.

See you at the footy.
