THURSDAY PREVIEW - ANZAC ROUND
25 Apr 19

Happy Anzac day everyone. A time for reflecting on the sacrifices, courage and selflessness of those who have served and continue to serve our country.

Lest we Forget.

It seems like ages since we had a footy game to go to, especially for our juniors and senior women who’ve had a long break since the opening round. We’re all back on deck this weekend – well except for the unfortunate under 17’s who have a bye so another week to wait, they will be jumping out of their skins come round 3.

This weekend sees the big boys heading on the road to take on North Heidelberg, It’s not been the best of starts to the Premiership defence with two losses at home to start the season, but Robbie and the boys have been hard at it on the track over the break and head to Shelley Reserve with a steely resolve to bring home the points, it should be a cracking affair with the action kicking off at 2.10.

Prior to the main game, the reserves are in action and after racking up a cricket score last time out the boys will be keen to replicate that effort (with a little more accuracy in front of goal) as they take on the Bulldogs. The action will be hot from the first bounce at 11.55 don’t miss it. Unless of course your making your way from Diamond Creek where our under 19’s will be in action. The boys have had a tough start to the year and will be looking for a solid effort and a first win for the year as they take on the Creekers from 9.40, get along and show your support and then head to Shelley Street for the rest of the action.

Sunday we have 5 games at home on the hallowed turf.

Kicking off proceedings is the scintillating Under 9 Blue side who welcome Monty White to JE Moore Park from 9.00. Take a seat early, grab brekkie from the canteen and sit back and be entertained.

Our Under 11’s are the next to grace the turf as Eltham Panthers come to play. Should be a rollicking affair from 10.15.

The Combined Rooster/Darebin 14 Girls make a home appearance with Yarrambat in the house. Its great to see this group of girls making a first home appearance for the season. They’d love to have you cheer them on. Be there for the bounce at 11.45, and make sure you take in the coaches quarter and three quarter time addresses – the eloquence of the man is breathtaking.

The junior action finishes up with the 16’s also hosting Yarrambat from 1.15. The boys will be looking to back up the impressive first round victory with another solid hit out against a very competitive rival, don’t miss it.

The day at home winds up with the Senior women in action against Darebin Falcons 1.
Both teams are coming off first round losses, so will both be eager to get on the board for 2019, Niall and the Ladies will put on a great show, so please take your seats by 3.00 and don’t miss a second of the action.

On the road our Magnificent under 9 Red make the short trek to Northcote for an early morning hit out, proceedings commence at 8.30

The U10’s have a short trip in the other direction as they find their way to Thomastown for the slightly more appealing start time of 9.00am.

Diamond Creek is the destination for our U13’s as they look to make it two from two after an impressive first round performance. Chas will no doubt still be on a high from the proceedings at Marvel Stadium last Sunday. An sos was sent out to Lygon street to make sure he made it to training on Wednesday. Hopefully he’ll head home with the 4 points to watch his beloved Blues in Action from Tassie. The action starts at 12.30 which should give the Legend enough time to find a TV.

The under 14’s with another happy Blue bagger in charge will also be looking to follow up an impressive round 1 effort when they travel to Northcote. With both sides recording convincing wins first up, this should be one for the ages, 11.45 the umpire will raise the Sherrin.

Our road action winds up in Diamond Creek as the under 15’s take to the field at 2.00. Both of these teams recorded big victories in round 1, and will be keen to go 2 and Zip to start the year – this should be a ripper.

And as previously mentioned the under 17’s have an extended break with a bye this weekend.

Our Netballers are also back in action on Friday night at Parade College taking on Montmorency 4 from 7.20 on court 3, the ladies will be looking to follow up a great debut win from round 1. Its a fair “Rooster” family affair – I’m suire the ladies would love some crowd support!

Good luck to all the teams this weekend.

Just some quick house- keeping to finish things off, Don’t forget to get back to the Rooms on Sunday night, with our first function for the year kicking off officially at 5.30. The rooms will be open all day and with the senior women in action from 3 the bar will be open so come on down earlier, take in a great game of footy and enjoy some cracking company.

You would have hopefully seen the posts on team app and facebook about the Raffle draw being put back a few weeks to ensure everyone get’s their tickets. The committee appreciate your understanding – the new date is June 2nd. If you do already have your tickets make sure you get the stubbs back prior to the draw.

Our new exciting range of Merchandise is not too far away, some very trendy stuff will be hot off the Paris runways – stay tuned.

I think that about does it for now, Enjoy your weekend and the footy, it’s great to be back.

Go Roosters….
