THE WEEKEND WRAP -BROUGHT TO YOU BY BELL COLLISION
07 May 19

Take a Breath, what a weekend of action….

We travelled far and wide in the juniors, while all the senior action centred on J.E.Moore Park. The Netballers kicked it all off on Friday night with a clash against Bundoora 7. The ladies Unfortunately went down by 12 to 23, but in true Rooster spirit made the opposition work for it all the way.

Auskick was rocking on Saturday morning, and despite the cool conditions, another great turn out! Lots of fun and laughs on both sides of the boundary line.

Just spread the word around – Guess who’s back in town? Yes the Boys are back in town! I speak of our under 19’s who got the band back together on Saturday!

They kicked off proceedings Saturday Morning with a home game against the Bulldog Bloods, a combine of North Heidelberg and Lalor, and well – we WON!

The boys have been putting their heads up each week to cop a whack over the first 3 games, and did so again on Saturday. This time they did the whacking! Not literally of course, but on the scoreboard where it matters most. The boys were rewarded for the hard work and perseverance of the preseason and first 3 rounds with an outstanding display that at sirens end had us up by wait for it… Drum Roll…… 168 Point. Also cracking the magical 200 point mark along the way (201). Not a bad way to break the ice for the year, leading to one of the more robust singings of a club song you will hear for some time.

A special shout out to Jake Tyson who made his return to the playing action after a serious leg injury suffered last year. It was great to see the inspirational co skipper back on the park where he belongs. Good to have you back Tiger. Also a shout out to to Mitch “Choco” “Quiz guru” Rodda on playing his 150th Club game, well done Choc.

Well done boys, you’re a credit to the club and an inspiration to all that if you keep at it and at it, the reward will come. With grading done were down in 2nd Div and have a home game V laurimar Saturday @9.40am Well done again, take it away Thin Lizzy…

The Reserves were next up taking on the previously unbeaten Bundoora. I’m sorry to say they are still unbeaten. Dspite the inside knowledge provided by our Coach who was in charge of the ship at Bundoora last year, we just couldn’t get over the line and fell short by 23 points in trying conditions. There are no easy games in this competition and it doesn’t get any easier next week with the unbeaten Greensborough away next on the agenda. Sando again broke the games record for the club, well done young man…

Also Jedd Crapper had a milestone, playing his 200th club game. Well done Jedd, still a bit short of Sando, but keep chipping away.

The seniors then looked to get our season back on track in the main game against a strong Bulls outfit,. I’m sorry to say we again came up short – this time by 17 points. There were glimpses of last year’s form on display at times but not for long enough periods and when your chasing the game for the whole day it’s tough to get over the line. Much work to be done, but we have the men in charge to turn it around and the players to do it – we just have to find our Mojo then look out…As with the Reserves, it’s an unbeaten Greensborough away next week in the twilight, get down there and cheer the boys on.

While on the Senior side, a shout out to Peter Papharonis who made his debut as the 23rd man on Saturday. Well done mate, made the most of limited opportunities, including kicking his first goal from downtown, after the final siren. Here’s to many more Senior games down the track.

In Sunday’s Junior action we had 5 at home and 5 “Hit the road Jack”.

Kilmore was the longest trip as our 17’s finally got back in action after last week’s bye. The boys were jumping out of their skins to get on the park, that may have been the issue when kicking for goal a very wasteful 2.15 in front of goal proved disastrous especially when the opposition kick 10.4, no doubt the boys will be doing some goal kicking practice during the week and get back on the Straight and narrow next week.

Our 15’s were at South Morang and produced a very satisfying result. This team is ticking over nicely like a well-oiled machine. They too were a little wasteful in front of goal racking up 19 behinds, the consolation was the 28 Goals, great effort boys.

The 14 girls visited Wallan and continued to show more improvement as they gel together, keep at it girls, with the effort and commitment your showing every week a win will not be too far away.

The real Roosters took on the imposters of West Ivanhoe in the under 10’s – we know who rules the roost…. (that would be us, just in case you were wondering?) wonderful battle between two talented young line ups.

And under 9 blue were at Diamond Creek were a spellbinding affair played out in front of an appreciative crowd, lots of highlights in this one, Footy was the Winner.

At home on the top oval the under 11’s hosted Yarrambat in a Mesmerising affair. The battled raged and when the siren sounded well…. We had a achieved a nice little victory… not that winning is what we are about, but it’s Nice.

On the big ground the under 9 red team hosted Northcote Yellow in an exceptional contest our kids were magnificent providing a highlights reel for the ages, terrific contest to start the day off.

The under 13’s came up against a very good Eltham Black side who were just a little too good for us on the day. Our boys and Girl battled hard all game and lost no admires despite losing on the scoreboard, we certainly won in the sportsmanship stakes! Well played kids, you sent Chas off to Marvel Stadium with a spring in his step, seeking some solace from his beloved blues, we all know how that turned out..

In the 14’s Kilmore made the trip down the highway and were clearly up for the contest jumping out of the blocks to a very handy quarter time lead. From then on it was a close contest, but the damage was done early despite our best efforts to drag it back the biscuits headed back up the highway.

Big Congratulations to Joel Crapper who ran through the banner for his 100th game, wonderful achievement at this age, he might just catch the big brothers tally before he’s done….

We then hosted Research in the under 16s. This was a First class affair, a seesawing contest had us slightly up at the half time break, they call the third the Premiership quarter for a reason and we put this one to bed with a great 20 min’s of footy and kept it going in the last, terrific effort boys.

And the Day and weekend game to an end with the Senior women taking on Bundoora. This was the Div 2 Premiers from last year (us for those with a short memory) against the Div3 Premiers (them). The season had started differently for both, us 0/2 them 2/0, not surprisingly our Ladies were up for a fight, figuratively speaking of course all thou it did get pretty willing at times as evidenced by the number of ice bags doing the rounds after the game. Oh yeah at the final siren it was a pretty comfortable victory for the home team. Congrats to all the ladies and Niall who broke his coaching Duck, and was a very proud Rooster strutting around the club rooms after the game. What a nice way to finish of a big weekend of footy action, well done to all.

With the playing side done, th IPod shuffle night went down a treat, some interesting choices of music on display, certainly showed the diverse nature of our club…..

Don’t forget to return your raffle tickets, you have to be in it to win it…. Great prizes on offer from some off our wonderful sponsors, speaking of which If you need it we have it covered, and I mean fully covered, so before you go buying something new or seeking advice, a tradie etc., jump on the website and check out our sponsor’s list and we’re sure you will find what you’re looking for, just make sure you tell them you’re from the club.

Ladies day is on June 1st – get your tickets they are selling fast you don’t want to miss out on the biggest day of the year, always a highlight. Details on Teamapp, Facebook and posters around the rooms.

That’s a wrap. Draw should come out soon while the big boys headed to Greensborough in the twilight next week.

And lastly our thoughts are with John and Frank Paola and Family on the passing of Their Mother in law/Grandmother, take care the Rooster family sends you it love.

Be good, Be safe and we’ll see you at the footy.

Go Roosters.
