Simple, traditional flavours, fresh produce. As always let them know you’re a Rooster…..

Ok a bit of a history lesson to begin with. A question – Which animal is the emblem of France? Do you need some thinking music? Or does the answer pop straight into your head??

Yeap you guessed it – the Rooster or the Gallic Rooster to be precise, why is that important? Well Sunday was Bastille Day. In France a big deal for the French and the Rooster was seen flying high throughout the countryside. The French even had the Yellow Jersey wearer in Le Tour an even bigger deal for the French. Anyway I digress. Enough of the international Rooster, back to our own and it was a massive Weekend for the Le’ Ozzie version.

And what a weekend it was….

When was the last time the big 4 all won on the same weekend? The Mighty Tigers, Blues, Pies and Bombers all saluting made many Rooster fans very happy over the weekend – there I go again getting side tracked….

Back to important matters, Let’s begin with Friday night, where we had two codes in action with the Under 19’s and Netballers taking flight, and both bringing home the spoils.

The Netballers took on Laurimar 4 and edged away for an 18-13 Victory in a great result for the Ladies. While finals might be out of the question they are certainly making a great fist of their inaugural season. Well done ladies.

Over at Snake Gully Drive in cold, wet and slippery conditions the 19’s Got home in a tough bruising affair to the tune of 24 pts. It could have been more but for some wasted opportunities in front of goal. It was pleasing to string two wins together and keep the pressure on the sides above them on the ladder. The boys need to keep winning to mount a finals charge – based on Fridays’ effort they are up for the Fight.

Saturday produced some more inclement weather -ok at times it was a bit more than just inclement, downright bucketing down, but our boys handled it with aplomb. Firstly the Reserves with a strong 52 point margin. This was more impressive by the fact they did it without Games Record Holder Sando who plied his trade in the seniors with a late call up. It all adds to his tally, now standing at 1221 and counting. Barks continues to chase but it may all be in vain. Sando looks in the best condition of his career and just may play on into his 50’s! Suffice to say Scotty was a contented Coach with the win.

I should mention Lower Plenty was the opponent for the reserves and Seniors who also recorded a strong victory with a 47 point margin at the final siren. It was a solid hit out by the boys and a good bounce back after last week’s disappointment. It also has us back in the top 5! In a very tight race for finals spots, only 6 points separate 4th and 9th on the ladder every game in the run home becomes a mini final. No more so for us than this week in the long awaited Grand Final Rematch with Macleod. Should be a ripper so don’t miss it… more later in the week. And a little shout out to Rainier Pezzin who filled the 23rd man role on the weekend acquitting himself well in the tough conditions. I’m sure there was a handball on offer late in the game that could have had him on the goal kickers list… Hmmmm.?.?

So all three Senior men’s got the job done on the weekend, which was great. Unfortunately the Senior women could not get us 4 from 4, Going down to Bendigo Thunder on Sunday by 12 points. Played in miserable conditions the cold and wet properly advantaged the Thunder girls who’d be used to the freezing conditions! We made a game of it late, but they held firm and kicked clear for the win.

Our Ladies did look the part in their Specially designed jumpers for Sir Douglas Nicholls round, coinciding with NAIDOC week. The pre-match ceremony was a highlight. Special thanks to the organisers and to Bendigo for taking part. A massive Well done to all on a terrific and moving day. A great way to acknowledge our indigenous Rooster family.

In the Juniors

Under 9 Red hosted Monty Black on the top deck and
Under 9 Blue were also up on high against Eltham White.

Suffice to say as always these two teams of budding superstars turned on a display of skill and teamwork to impress the harshest of critics. If you didn’t walk away impressed, then you are not easily pleased. Highlights aplenty as usual. Well done to both teams.

The under 10’s had an extended break with the bye this week. They will no doubt be jumping out of their skins next week.

The Under 11’s were away at Research. In a huge game we got the points with a comprehensive 62 point win. The team now is now two games clear in the 4. Still some work to do but looking good to extend the season beyond the home and away games.

The U13’s were at home to Yarrambat and were rewarded for all their persistence in a difficult season by singing the song, loud and Proud after a satisfying 47 point win. This just added to the already huge smile the Legend was sporting on his dial pre-match. Something about Navy Blue?? At this rate, I don’t think we’ll be losing the Legend at season end. The other job might already be filled. Well done team on a great Win.

The 14 boys also played on the big stage with Panton Hill the next in line for a touch up as the team powers through a very impressive season to date. A convincing 92 point the outcome. Finals are definitely on the agenda this season, it appears the only thing that can stop these boys is the bye next week…

The 14 Girls combine after some good recent form took on the high flying Montmorency who are one of the benchmarks this year. Despite the best efforts of our girls on a tough day, Monty proved too tough. The Messiah as always was incredibly proud of his chargers, who never gave up and showed great resilience to fight it out to the final siren.

In the 15’s we hosted top of the table Yarrambat, finding out just why they sit at the top of the table. The team got a football lesson, going down by 65. The good thing about it is that it only round 11 which means the boys have time to learn from it and be better prepared should we meet again come finals time.

The 16’s were at Monty and paid the price for a slow start, slumping to a 30 point half time deficit. The boys won the second half but the damage done. Going down by 25 at the final siren.

Wrapping it all up, the 17’s Headed to Diamond Creek and for a half it was looking good, with an 11 point lead at the main break. A dominant third by the Creekers swung the game their way taking an 18 point lead to the final quarter. Despite our best efforts we came up 29 short in the end, still much to like about the effort, but as always it’s a 4 quarter game….

So that’s the playing side done. Saturday night the Bucking Bull was well Bucking as the house rocked to the “Wild Wild West Preston” night. A great time had by all. There were some less than glamorous dismounts, and some highly amusing wanted posters…. Good times! Well done to the organisers on another great function.

And the good times keep coming. The Presidents lunch is this Saturday 11.30 to 2.00. For just $30 you get a brilliant feed and the highly entertaining “Suburban Footballer” as entertainment. Should be a laugh a minute leading into the Grand Final Rematch. Where else would you rather be?

That’s all she wrote on another big weekend …
See you at the Footy and Netball.

Vive’ La Rooster!
