GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Hi WPLFC Members, Players and Supporters,

We hope that you are all well and managing through this strange and difficult time. Although we still don’t know what is in store for the 2020 football season, we have an opportunity to give something back to our community who has supported us for many years.

The Reservoir Neighbourhood House has been providing food and support to people in Darebin for many years. During the COVID-19 this requirement escalated considerably to a point where this organisation was overwhelmed. As a result, Reservoir Neighbourhood House looked for assistance and formed a partnership with other organisations (Bridge Darebin, Food Bank, Fairshare, Preston Rotary). This was a game changer and ensured that the less fortunate would be provided with food and groceries. In the last 5 weeks the team has delivered over 3,300 bags of groceries and 4,040 meals and growing.

These organisations rely on volunteers' support to unload food, pack food, etc. WPLFC has an opportunity to assist in helping this process in a small but significant way. Specifically, they require some help (2 or 3 people) to unload food trucks and prepare food packs on Mondays and Tuesdays between 11am and 1.30pm.

It’s not a big ask and we have enough people around the club that can assist for a few hours. Those working or studying from home may find this a great change and for everyone, it would simply be a good thing to do. We’ve already had some of our players and senior coach (thanks, guys!) assist this week and they all enjoyed the experience. Please make sure you wear your WPLFC gear when you turn up.
